Ruth’s career began in 1992 when she accepted a tenancy at St James’ Chambers in Quay Street, Manchester, after the completion of her pupillage there. She spent her first seven years establishing a mixed practice in family and personal injury law, and the following 10 years undertaking almost exclusively family work, both public and private, primarily in the East Lancashire area. In 2007 she accepted an invitation to move to Winckley Square to join its specialist family team.

Since moving to Preston, she has developed a specialist practice in public law work, and is instructed in cases of all levels of complexity by local authorities, parents, children, and interveners. Ruth is well respected by instructing local authorities, other parties and judges for her skills in hearings involving complex case management, and in substantive hearings where the central issues include serious sexual abuse, chronic neglect, and non-accidental injury. She is also admired for her practical and common sense approach, coupled with sound judgment and a calm and friendly demeanour with professional and lay clients alike.

Ruth regularly gives seminars to local solicitors and social workers on law and practice.
