Nicholas Kennedy has practised in the field of crime and regulatory work for over 20 years, prosecuting and defending in equal measure. His practice in those areas extends across the full spectrum of criminal work, including in particular:
- Murder, Attempted murder and serious offences of violence
- Drugs offences including substantial drugs conspiracies involving multiple Defendants and very significant amounts of money and drugs
- Serious sexual offences (Lecturer on the Sexual Offences Act 2003)

- Fraud and related offences
- Firearms offences (including the importation of firearms)
In the field of regulatory work Nicholas Kennedy has appeared in numerous cases concerned with the Trades Descriptions Act 1968, the Trademarks Act 1994, the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and the Consumer Protection Act 1987 and regulations made thereunder. He has also appeared for the Prosecution and Defence in Health and Safety Act proceedings, defended in prosecutions brought by VOSA and appeared on behalf of clients before the North West Traffic Commissioner.
Nicholas Kennedy is a Level 4 CPS panel advocate and Rape panellist. He has appeared as a leading junior in serious cases on a number of occasions. He has a reputation as a powerful and tenacious advocate with exceptional cross examination skills.

R v DS, (Hudson and others) (2008 Preston) CC. 3 month Fraud and Money laundering conspiracy relating to bogus damp proof installations (case featured on BBC TV 'Rogue Traders') (Defence).
R v Altham 2006 (Court of Appeal, Scott-Baker LJ, Ramsay J and the Recorder of Cardiff ‐  EWCA Crim 7) ‐ whether Article 3 ECHR availed a Defendant in his defence of medical necessity on cannabis possession charge. (Prosecution)
R v Shacklady 2004/2010 ‐ Manchester CC. 3 month Murder/Drugs importation case (Prosecution). Conviction against Murder appealed to the Court of Appeal in 2010 ‐  EWCA Crim 122 on grounds of fresh evidence. Appeal unsuccessful.
